Long Time T.V. Viewer, First Time Live Viewer
So after a few times of planning to go in person to watch a procycling stage race and cancelling or not going, I finally did it. I went to Colorado to attend the 2013 USA Pro-Cycling Challenge. I was a bit uneasy, having only watched on t.v. and not knowing Colorado and having to deal with road closures and parking yada yada yada. But after my first taste I was more than sold, so glad I did it. It's been a few days now and I figured maybe I should blog about it so I have a record somewhere.

The Blonde and The Air Freshener...
Starts off like a typical joke doesn't it... Reminds me of something said at an interfaith wedding in response to someone saying, "oh look, a priest and a rabbi..." ("sounds like the start of a joke...a priest and a rabbi go to a wedding...")
So one very early morning, heading off for some travel to a conference, I'm in the passenger seat of an automobile and the driver is, fortunately, in the driver's seat. We hit a light on the highway (yeah, roads in some parts of Canada, I tell you, lights on a highway...) and so I notice a car in the next lane and they have the same (different colour) [yeah, we have "u" in words too] air freshener hanging off the rear view mirror as I do. So, I comment excitedly and then look at the rear view mirror in the automobile I'm in and see no air freshener. I "freaked out" (nothing too much, just very surprised) and the driver was just sort of looking at me but not in any particular way. It was then that I realized - we'd taken the driver's car, not mine and so of course there was no air freshener. We had a good laugh over my mistake, me especially. In my defense, it's more usual that my car is the one used (and it was early!) (and I had my hair dyed blonde a few months ago - just kidding - well, I did but kidding about blonde jokes).

TdF - Stage 6
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Ryder down!!
That was some chaos.
My roadtrip is off. Still some travel - T.O./NYC.
Gotta post sooner - forget about the stage if I don't do it right away.

TdF - Stage 5
Have to say, I was somewhat distracted watching this stage. Leaving shortly for a road trip, Chicago/New York.
Thought we might get to it w/o a crash.
That was quiet a finish! I thought it was over, Urtasun (sp?) had it, then, wham! they went by him like he was pedalling a stationary bike (kind of like standing still, but for cycling ;)
J'aime le tour. Not sure that's the correct use of French. Seriously, other than all this doping crap, it's all amazing - the scenery, the strategy, the combo of team/individual goals, the commentators!, the old buildings, the crowds (sometimes), the lion you get for having the yellow jersey (I want one!!)

The Long and The Short of It
So again from the recent trip...
Who ever thought I'd be writing about fashion at this blog but there were a couple observations I made while away that I thought I'd comment on. It's a sort of "near-far" thing from Sesame Street coupled with a multiple choice exam. So here goes, fashion "advice" from GB...
If your hair is longer than your dress, you may want to:
a) buy a longer dress, skanky
b) get your haircut, hippy! (I kid, sorry hippies and hippie-lovers)
c) consider a new career as a Lady Godiva impersonator, think of the wardrobe costs you'll save
If your jean shorts are shorter than the pockets in said shorts, you may want to:
a) grow some longer shorts
b) reduce your pockets
c) start a new fashion trend and extend the pockets

Trip Wit
I recently went on a road trip with a few other people. Here a few of the *lovely* one-liners the van was treated to courtesy of yours truly.
Upon seeing a Jack in the Box sign: "If Jack in the Box went out of business the headline would read, 'Jack in the PineBox'."
Upon seeing a sign for Medford: "I never met a Ford I didn't like."
Upon seeing a sign for Yreka: (something like) "Yeah, why reek-a, get some deodorant and you won't reek-a."
Upon combining the box of Medjool dates in the vehicle with a sign about upcoming road work (to a recently single guy): "Would you like a date?" (He knows I mean a Medjool date). He replies, "no thanks" and I say, "Are you sure? Because there's a single lane ahead!" (That one actually still makes me laugh).
Upon seeing dead deer on the side of the highway: "The population is deer-creasing."
Upon a lengthy blathering about someone wanting to buy a ranch (because of the scenery we were passing through): "I guess it's better to buy a ranch than to have bought the farm."
And a couple that I didn't share for some reason (maybe some people were sleeping?)
Upon seeing a sign for Louse Creek: 'Hmm, so when you come out, are you de-loused?'
Upon seeing many signs with the town population and elevation: I found it interesting that so many had elevations with larger numbers than their populations.
